Comfort Quito – Bogota
It is not required to book the optional excursions in advance! You can decide during the trip which excursions you would like to join.
City Tour & Mitad del Mundo – Quito
We start the city tour in the heart of colonial Quito where we experience the charm of the Independence Square with its gorgeous Cathedral, Presidential Palace and Archbishop´s Palace. Later on we visit the with gold overloaded church of La Compañia (1605), which is considered to be the finest example of baroque architecture in America. From the historical center we drive up to the Panecillo Hill. Here we meet Quito’s Virgen and it is an ideal location for a panoramic view of the whole capital. When we have enjoyed this view we continue the tour visiting the monument of the Middle of the World where we can see the actual Ecuatorial Line where the latitude of 0º 00’ 00” is marked. This place is quite unique since you can literally jump from the northern to the southern hemisphere of the planet. Inside of the momument we find the Ethnographic Musuem which we visit as well. In the afternoon we return to our hotel.
Tour by horse to the Rio Magdalena Canyon – San Agustin
After breakfast we meet our local guide and his horses. The selection of horses is based on the riding skills you have got. Through the magnificent surrounding forests we ride on pathways and open fields until we reach the Rio Magdalena Canyon viewpoint. Here, we look 400 meters down onto the mighty river that flows until Baranquilla and into the Caribbean. If we are lucky we can spot Chulos, the little cousin of the majestic Condor. Once we get back on our horse we continue this wild ride to a site where we can see the only colorized stone carving that belongs to the ancient civilization that lived in this area. In the afternoon our guide will bring us back to El Maco Finca.
City tour – Medellin
We first visit the Plaza Botero where the 23 big black sculptures of the artist Fernando Botero are exhibited. Then we go to the enormous Metroplitan Cathedral, the impressive architecture at the Orquideorama and the Barefoot Park where we can only walk on bare foot (what a coincidence). During this excursion we also take the Metro Cable, which is actually used as public transport but gives us an incredible view of the city. Apart from all the sightseeing there are some museums to visit like Museo de Antioquia, the Planetario de Medellin and Museo the Arte Moderno de Medellin. We can decide with the group to which one we would like to go.
City Tour – Bogota
Our local guide picks us up after breakfast to start the walking city tour in Bogota. Bogota has clearly lost its image of danger and crime. Now students, families and creative minds wander around in the city, while there is a lot going on every day of the week. The Candelaria is one of the most interesting places for short-stays with its impressive mix of colonial buildings, reaching back to the times when Colombia gained its independence, and its modern skyscrapers like the Colpatria tower. Our guide shows us the most important buildings in this district. As we get up the Monserrate Hill by cable car we have an extraordinary view all over downtown Bogota. Up there we realize how huge the Colombian capital is. On this hill there is a church worth paying a visit and a special local drink worth drinking. The drink is called Canelazo, which is a hot alcoholic fruit beverage. Then we go back down by cable car again. At the end of the tour we have the chance to visit Bogota’s famous musems like the Gold Museum. This one reflects the indigenous culture, handcraft and modern art, mixed with the most astounding pieces of gold craft from ancient times. After this overload of beauty and gold we go our own way or back to the hotel.
